How long would we all guess it’s been since I wrote a nendoroid review? At least a year I’d wager. In that time you’ll be glad to know I’ve gotten a few disgustingly cute nendos that we’ll definitely be seeing reviews for. The first on the docket is this tiny version of Victor Nikiforov from Yuri On Ice fame.
Victor’s hair falls nicely in front of his face doing a nice job of framing it. On his primary smiling face he’s winking at the audience and one bright blue eye stares straight ahead. It’s a stupidly cute starter face for sure.
His half gloves are done rather nicely, they look especially good in this pose holding one hand towards you. The pink gradient on his shirt looks very nice however I do wish that they had added a hint of sparkle to it, I mean this is a figure skating outfit and it doesn’t shine at all which is a little disappointing. Around his neck Victor is currently wearing his gold medal that we saw him win in the anime.
His slacks are a plain black that again looks quite nice but very simple. There is a fold line at the front of each pant leg that is standard in men’s formal dress.
Victor’s hair looks nice from the side I love the way his bangs look from this angle.
From the side we can see the tassels on his shoulder a little better. I am disappointed that they sculpt out every little detail on the Touken Ranbu figures but Victor’s tassels are stuck to his shirt. That’s just sad. Aside from that minor gripe though he looks nice, there aren’t any paint flaws to be seen nor real sculpting issues, just the futile complaints of someone who buys way to many nendos and sees unfair treatment between franchises. His skates are adorable but they should have painted the empty spots black instead of just leaving them the same silver as the rest of the blade.
I think his hair looks a little funny in the back, I think it’s because they clearly sculpted the layering, but without putting in any of the work on layered hair. It’s not that it’s bad, but a little boring.
The back of his shirt looks nice enough with only minor paint bleed between the light and dark pink. There’s also the coattails which are weird but we’ll talk about that in the next picture….
So we can see it a bit clearer here for whatever reason there is an extra area that they painted but didn’t cut out. This is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen on a figure and I just do not get it at all. I’m not even sure what they were going for here in the first place.
The overlapping effect on his hair from this side is incredibly cute.
Next issue he doesn’t actually hold his bouquet there’s a peg that attaches to his hand. It looks a bit odd, like gsc has never sculpted a hand with an accessory already attached before? They couldn’t have done that this time too in order to make it look more accurate.
Other then that the flowers look ok. I mean for a bunch of chibified flowers, I’m pretty sure I have an accessory from a nineties my little pony that looks pretty much the exact same. The flecks of paint going down the lapels is a nice touch, but I still think sparkles would have been more appropriate. In other news the gold embellishments on the front of shirt are sculpted a lot better then the ones on his shoulder.
Victor’s next face has an open mouthed smile and both eyes are wide and open providing a very warm welcoming expression like we’ve come to expect from him.
That face goes well with his skating poses. He looks like he’s enjoying himself which is nice, however I do wish that they would have included a more pensive expression for skating as well. Happy isn’t the term I would use to describe Victor’s expression most of the time we saw him skate.
Naturally they also gave him a total goober face which again looks just fine, although I pretty much never display figures with comedy faces so I doubt this one will get much love. Victor’s dog Makkachin looks super cute, and perfectly to scale with him.
Overall I like this nendoroid but I wasn’t blown away by it. I stand by the fact that he is super cute and I love his eyes so much that it’s practically sick. I really wish however that they had given a quarter of the effort to him that they did the Touken nendos or the Thunderbolt ones. In summary if you like Victor buy him, for fans he’s really cute, jut don’t expect to get blown away by it. Or wait for the Coach version to come out because it shouldn’t have enough detail for GSC to mess it up.
