So this is the fourth week now for Megaten Mondays, and as I promised last week here we finally have the Snow Queen Quest. I’d heard previously that this was an insanely hard bit of gaming here. I was willing to try tackeling it anyway….with varying results.
So the game is obviously going to start off the same, “Persona, persona, come to me”. collapse, butterflies, go visit Maki in the hospital. So here we are at the hospital. Now it’s time to actually start playing and preparing for this quest.
I trained for 13 hours between the hospital and the city streets. 13 hours… I may as well have drug a tire across the beach and called Mr. Miyagi sensei for all that it’s worth. Mr zombie, cait sith, and hoodlums couldn’t deal me damage by the time I was actually willing to move on.
So I trained and trained and trained and trained, then I did what any pseudo pyschotic teenager does. I went to the mall and gambled for two hours straight. By the way the ‘guy’ running the casino has a four o clock shadow and lipstick. How creepy.
I got really good at poker after awhile. This stupid password game though, I never did get this stupid thing in the turn limit. I earned a lot of coins, I mean a LOT of them. Coins you can cash in for prizes you see. I upgraded some of my equipment here while already laughing maniacally. PS: if your only six minutes into a story, and already laughing like a mad man, then the game is winning.
So then next step back into the city. Wait back in? What else cold you possibly need? Spell cards my dear, spell cards. I beat up every pansy little monster out there a quickly gathered twelve cards to hold onto in my inventory. I could have Igor fuse them together right now, but I’ll wait for a taste of what I’ll be fighting once this quest actually starts.
So on to the school, if you talk to everyone in the building eventually you’ll find a girl in classroom 2-4. She’ll mention a strange rumor and say maybe you should talk to ‘Devil Boy’. Guess we’re looking for Tsutomu then.
In the library Tsutomu will give you the first hint to your actual objective. ‘The Snow Queen.” A danish Fairy Tale by Hans Christian Anderson unless I’m mistaken. He’ll also send you off to talk to the drama club for more information.
So you go talk to the drama club, but they refuse to talk about it. Something about a cursed incident though. Maybe you should go talk to someone who was around ten years ago when the play was last performed.
So let’s see that leaves Saeko, Nurse Natsumi, The Principal, and Vice Principal. Well I hit the nurses office first to no avail, so we’ll check the principal’s office next. There’s pay dirt to be found this time in the form of Princpial Ooishi. She talks about an evil mask and how THAT incident never would have happened if she hadn’t allowed the mask to be used…curiouser and curiouser…..
That sounds like I need to find this evil mask right? That sure is how it sounded to me. Eventually I found the storage area by the gym. Sitting there on the floor in the middle of the room is a box covered insealing talismans. Do you open it?
Well duh? Of course. So this mask is hovering in front of me and what do I do? Take it of course. There’s some logic for you.
So you leave the storage area and exit the gym and run into Mrs. Saeko. She’s surprised to see the Snow Queen mask in your possession and talks briefly about the curse ‘whoever wears the snow queen mask dies, give me a break I wore it and I’m fine.’ She puts the mask on declaring Lady Luck is on her side and we can now count Saeko out of the plot. The mask has melded to her face and she’s now talking in a creepy voice.
Before that though she gave us a nice bit of exposition about the Snow Queen story.
So with a flash of light the party collapses and Mrs Saeko is gone, oh and the school is completely frozen. How bothersome.
So whereas we collapsed outside the gym we are now in the courtyard when we awaken. I love teleporting for the sake of the plot. So after an annoying conversation with the now possessed Saeko, she’s frozen in the courtyard, and an open challenge has been handed to your party. you can save her, and the school. If you can climb the three towers that make up the ice castle school thing, and defeat the guardians she’ll remove the curse on Saeko and the school.
Fortunately Travis Willingham Philemon comes and tells you about the demon mirror, and that this mirror can unfreeze our teacher if the party collects the mirror shards in the towers. So it sounds like both Phil and the Snow Queen want us to climb the towers. Can do.
Last thing for today is the shopping district. Now the school has a full abundance of stores, a velvet room, and a casino. All have different options than they did in town too. Looks like I’m back to gambling for awhile.
