Since Wonderfest last year I’d been watching Kotobukiya’s figure of Kuroyukihime. Her beauty had me positively spellbound from the very first time I saw her. Monthes of waiting finally paid off and she’s here in my care now. Was she worth the wait? You’ll just have to read on to find out.
Her face is gorgeous, her eyes have a bit of light refracting off of them which adds a bit of life to her expression. there’s a thick mascara over her eyes, making her eyelashes very prominent. This does appear to be the only makeup that this figure is wearing. Her mouth is turned up in an almost mischievous looking smile. As is customary with a lot of anime character designs her cheeks are graced by tiny white circles . Her hair frames her face nicely, I do not like how her hair falls on the left side however. You see rather than laying against her bare shoulder it hits the fur and then stops. Just stops, it looks really unnatural.
I’m not stupid enough to not know that Haruyuki is supposed to be up against her chest so we don’t really need a great view of her front side, but this qualifies as a little ridiculous. Her chest is as flat as flat can get. Also despite how her shoulders are drawn upward she has no visible collarbone. There is also no feasible way for this dress to stay in place unless she’s using double-sided tape. Also the lace up front has no ties to speak of……she does have a belly button though.
The skirt has very nice trim, the light see through purple adds a bit of a delicate look that is only accentuated by the silver swallowtail butterflies gathered around by her hips. The butterflies are pure silver, in almost any light I’ve displayed her in they turn out looking blue in the center. This is really pretty in her pictures, but not exactly accurate to the figure.
Her legs are smooth and pale, they don’t really have any problems to them. I have read a few people have had paint transfer issues with her getting black scuffs on her legs. I have not had this issue fortunately, but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Her skirt is sliding down her leg in a manner that shows off an ample amount of skin without showing off too much. Nicely done Koto!
Her shoes are gorgeous but do raise another question with me. Obviously as you can see they are black dress shoes, high heels to be specific, the style they used is laced up. If you look at her right leg you can see the bow tying it off. Now for the question…what are the butterflies connected to? Not to the shoe, or the strings, so the top of her foot then? That can’t be comfortable.
Her hair has not one but two rather unpleasant seams at the top of her head. they look ridiculous. I do really love the way her hair falls around her though, it looks lovelier the further down you go.
The folds in her dress look perfectly placed and the cluster of butterflies look fantastic. Also with a heavy light shining on the figure the ruffled trim gains a pink tint which compliments Haruyuki nicely.
As beautiful as this girl dresses it’s still hard to not take notice of the large swallowtail butterfly wings attached to her back first and foremost. The paint strays a little bit at the black lines, but looks good regardless. The lines not reaching across the full span of her wings is a nice touch at making it look like flutterby wings. Another nice touch to it is the base plastic is transparent, it makes the wings seem thinner and more fragile than they actually are. It fits the overall design quite well.
Another thing that I really like about her wings is the inconsistency of the spaces between the lines. they aren’t evenly done at all.
The bottom of each wing is pieced separately, and they still have that beautiful translucency to them. They are very well painted and add just add another layer of appeal to this figure.
Her wings are however also a pain in the butt. They come in not one but four pieces that you have to plug into her spine. That sucks. Her hair falls around her in a lovely fashion, the individual strands look very nice. Then there’s her undergarments….well previously I made fun of ‘Love is War’ Miku (https://somewhereinthemidstofnowhere.wordpress.com/2012/02/27/hatsune-miku-love-is-war-good-smile-company-18-scale/) for having the tiniest panties in the world, but Kuro here takes it to a whole new level. From the front she is clearly wearing black panties, from the back we have a clear view of butt. Maybe she’s wearing a fundoshi? That would explain the black cord and the butterfly, man that is one lucky bug.
Her base was honestly one of the main reasons to purchase this figure. Her skirt sinks down into the watery base, and just to add a touch of realism to the water, the underside of the base has grooves in it to add depth. That is some damn fine detailing.
Now this little guy being held in the lovely lady’s arms is our series protagonist Haruyuki. He’s blushing rather brightly, which is adorable. There’s also a large sweatdrop on the right side of his head. How amusing.
From the sides you can clearly see how he’s flailing his little arms trying to get away….that’s probably the cause of her mischievous smile. You can also see the indent where her arms slides over him.
I really love how floppy his ears look. It’s way cute!
He fits snugly in her arms. I like the desperation on his face, he really wants to get away….and I bet I know why……
She’s cradling him just like he was a baby. So her hand is resting directly on his little piggy behind. That’d make any high school boy have that look on their face me thinks.
The black and red motif on the box fit her character design very nicely. Also as much as I like them showing the concept art, I like the glowing butterflies a little bit more.
The back of the box shows highlight pictures, wings, face, protagonist, legs. You know the usual. They do a great job of insuring that you know what you’re buying.
Over all she’s a beautiful figure. The seam lines at the top of her head are pretty disappointing, but in exchange her paint is almost perfectly flawless. she was definitely worth the MSRP but I wouldn’t recommend going to far out of your way for this one.
